M'sian man found trying to leave S'pore by hiding in lorry, arrested by ICA at Tuas Checkpoint
The lorry driver and his attendant were also arrested.
On Jun. 12, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at Tuas Checkpoint directed a Malaysian-registered lorry for enhanced checks.
Inside the lorry, officers found a person in a prone position, hiding in a corner of the lorry's cargo compartment, said ICA in a Jun. 13 Facebook post.
ICA officers subsequently placed the lorry driver, his attendant, and the person attempting to leave Singapore illegally, who was identified as a Malaysian man, under arrest.
They were referred to ICA's Enforcement Division for further investigation.
Penalties
ICA emphasised in the Facebook post that it "takes a serious view" of attempts to enter or depart Singapore illegally and will not hesitate to prosecute offenders for such cases.
Those convicted of departing Singapore illegally without presenting a valid passport could be fined up to S$2,000, jailed for up to six months, or both.
Those found guilty of abetting a person to depart Singapore illegally could be jailed for up to two years and fined up to S$6,000.
The vehicles used in such offences are liable to be forfeited, added ICA.
