After swimming in a pool at the Jalan Besar Swimming Complex on Mar. 31, 2025, a 12-year-old girl came out of the pool to find a man staring at her.

She collected her things, wrapped herself in a towel, and walked towards the female toilet but the man followed her.

He took the girl's phone and access her Instagram account, using it to follow his own account.

He also touched her back and gave her a side hug, leaving the girl shocked and scared.

He continued to harass her afterwards until the girl's mother found out and made a police report.

Indian national Pramender, 25, was eventually arrested on Apr. 2.

He later pleaded guilty on May 16 to one charge of attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child and one charge of molesting a child under 14.

A third charge of trespassing was taken into consideration for his sentencing.

Followed and touched the girl

According to court documents seen by Mothership, the girl was at Jalan Besar Swimming Complex with her aunt, uncle, and five cousins on Mar. 31.

Around 5:50pm, after exiting one of the pools, she noticed Pramender staring at her.

She wrapped herself in a towel and headed to the female toilet, but Pramender followed her.

At the entrance, he asked her to follow him on Instagram. When she declined, he took her unlocked phone and used it to follow his account.

While doing so, he stretched his left arm over the victim’s back and gave her a side hug for around five seconds.

Her towel slipped slightly, and his arm came into contact with parts of her body not covered by her swimsuit or towel.

The court heard that the victim was left shocked and scared by this.

Pramender then asked her to enter the female toilet with him and tried to pull her in. She resisted, and he let go.

He entered the female toilet alone and called out to her, but she said she needed to return to her family and walked away.

He exited from the female toilet to follow her briefly before entering the male toilet. Again, he called out for her but she told him she needed to return to her family and continued walking away.

The man followed and asked the girl to join him at a bench. The girl rejected him with the same reason for the third time.

Sent 13 messages, 2 audio call requests in less than 5 mins

The girl later got her cousins to accompany her to the toilet. A male cousin stood outside the toilet to guard and told the man, who was loitering at the toilet entrance, to leave.

The man then went to a bench nearby to wait instead. During this period, the man sent the girl 13 messages and two audio call requests between 6pm and 6:04pm.

These messages included “waiting for you”, “please outside meet”, “I like you”, “u brother waiting”, “reply please”, and “u come”.

The victim was scared after seeing the messages. She and her cousin eventually left the toilet and went to report the incident to the lifeguard on duty.

Later on at around 11pm, the girl's mother reported the incident via the police emergency SMS number.

Pramender was arrested on Apr. 2, less than two days after the police report was made.

Judge: Man's advances were "persistent, predatory and unwanted"

According to CNA, Pramender admitted to his mistake in mitigation, apologised and asked for forgiveness.

With the help of a translator, he told the judge that he had apologised to the victim's family.

Citing that his mother has cancer, he said he hoped to return to India as soon as possible.

District judge Chay Yuen Fatt noted that the situation could have been worse if the victim’s cousins were not there to protect her from Pramender.

He added that deterrence, along with the victim’s young age and her shock and fear in response to the man’s “persistent, predatory, and unwanted” advances, were taken into account in determining Pramender’s sentence.

Pramender was therefore sentenced to three months in jail.
