A 34-year-old man was arrested on May 15 for his suspected involvement in stealing motorcycle parts and a helmet on two separate occasions at the car parks of Changi Airport Terminal 4.

The man would be charged with theft in court on May 17, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a press release.

What happened

The police said they received a report from a motorcyclist on May 12 after both side mirrors of his motorcycle were stolen while it was parked at the multi-storey car park of Terminal 4.

Three days later, another motorcyclist found his helmet missing from his motorcycle, which was parked at a different car park of Terminal 4.

"Through ground enquiries and with the aid of the CCTV footage, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on May 15," said police, adding that two side mirrors of a motorcycle were recovered.

If convicted of stealing a motor vehicle part, the 34-year-old man may face up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

For theft, he may face up to three years in jail, a fine, or both.

The police reminded the public that offenders who commit such acts will be dealt with sternly under the law.

They also advised all motorcyclists to adopt measures to protect their motorcycles, including parking in well-lit areas, installing an anti-theft alarm system, securing the helmet properly after parking, and using a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle.
