PM Wong spoke to Chua Chu Kang MP Jeffrey Siow, amongst others, about taking up Cabinet position

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has spoken to various people in the newly-elected PAP team, including Chua Chu Kang GRC Member of Parliament (MP) Jeffrey Siow, about taking up positions in the Cabinet, said Siow.

Speaking to the media at the 2025 Brickland Green Festival on May 17, Siow said that PM Wong is "readying his cabinet" and "building his team", reported The Straits Times.

"I understand he’s been speaking to various people in his team who would be taking up positions in the Cabinet. I’m one of the people he has spoken to,” Siow said.

However, Siow did not disclose which political office he is being considered for, stating that the matter has yet to be finalised.

Saying it is an "important decision" for the PM to form his team, Siow said we have to "give it a bit of time".

“But in the discussions I’ve had, I’m very happy he knows the experiences and the skills that I have. He knows what I can contribute to his team,” he added.

He also said that he is "happy to contribute" in any role that PM Wong believes he can serve.

PM Wong has previously name-dropped Siow during the campaign for GE2025, calling him part of a new batch of candidates who will eventually grow to take on leadership roles.

Siow's background

Siow is a veteran civil servant who left his role as Second Permanent Secretary at both the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) earlier this year before contesting in the general election.

Prior to his appointment as Second Permanent Secretary, Siow was the first Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Singapore.

Siow has also held other appointments in the transport, education, and manpower ministries.

Siow also served as the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong from 2017 to 2021, a role which current Prime Minister Lawrence Wong previously held from 2005 to 2008.

With 24 years in public service, Siow is the most senior civil servant among the new candidates from GE2025.
