School holidays are coming up, and if you're unsure of what you and your kids can do to while away the time, here's an idea.

From May 16 to Jun. 29, 2025, you can participate in a range of sustainability-related tours, workshops and activities.

These are part of Go Green SG, a national movement launched in 2023 by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE). It is aimed at encouraging the community to "take collective action towards a more environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient Singapore".

This year, it was launched at Changkat Primary School, with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam as guest of honour.

There will be over 900 activities, organised by around 400 People-Public-Private (or 3P) partners, held across the month.

Most of these are free, while some require a participation fee.

Tours

These include a guided ferry tour of Singapore's southern islands by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, which will showcase Singapore’s maritime sustainability and decarbonisation efforts.

The tour will make a stop at the Sisters’ Islands Marine Park where participants can learn about local biodiversity and marine conservation initiatives.

There's also a tour of Singapore's first inland floating solar farm at Tengeh Reservoir, organised by the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore.

Learn more about native snakes by joining an evening guided tour led by The Untamed Paths, or how plastic is recycled from recycling company Semula and CP-Meiji.

Or go behind-the-scenes with the National Environment Agency to find out how CCTV systems are utilised to combat high-rise littering.

Talks and workshops

There will also be a variety of workshops.

Make your own keychains with upcycled coffee grounds, learn how to repair electronics and devices, or pick up composting at home.

The public can also join talks to hear first-hand from Acres about exciting wildlife rescue stories, or learn more about sustainable landscaping techniques.

Other initiatives

Other initiatives by retail and dining outlets will be conducted during this period.

Bring your own reusable tumbler and get 60 cents off your Starbucks beverage.

Play Beyond will also be holding free doorstep collection if one donates five or more toys.

Meanwhile, Decathlon's Buy & Sell Fair will have refurbished bicycles, camping gear and fitness equipment.

You can also trade in your old Decathlon bicycles for up to 60 per cent off their retail price.

Go 25

G0 25, another climate-focused national movement, was launched alongside Go Green SG by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and MSE today, supported by the National Environment Agency and Building and Construction Authority.

It encourages people to set their indoor air-conditioning to 25°C or above.

This is because overcooling has been found to increase energy consumption, which increases the amount of emissions produced.

More emissions generate more heat, which raises ambient temperatures, thus further increasing the need for cooling, creating a vicious cycle.

According to an MSE press release, research shows that additional energy savings can be achieved when air-conditioning temperatures are set above 25°C.

Go 25 thus calls for a shift towards "sustainable cooling".

Initiatives under Go 25

There will be a Go 25 Pledge, where industries can commit to setting indoor temperatures at 25°C or higher, as well as providing alternatives such as fans and encouraging relaxed dress codes.

A Go 25 Industry Guide will also be published in the third quarter of 2025 to help facilities managers and building operators implement higher indoor temperatures on their premises.
