Following changes to the internal boundaries of Tampines GRC, a new Tampines Boulevard division will be formed, led by MP Baey Yam Keng.

Baey announced the news on his social media on May 15.

To be established with effect from Jun. 1, the new ward will be carved out of Tampines North, East, and Central. It will include BTO flats north of Tampines Avenue 9 with block numbers from 601 to 666.

Baey has been serving his current division, Tampines North, since 2011. After his move, it will be helmed by ex-army chief and PAP newcomer David Neo.

In his post, Baey said that he had shown Neo around Tampines North the day before and introduced him to the residents.

He assured residents that he will continue to guide and support Neo.

Further plans for Tampines

Baey also said that as the new chairman of Tampines Town Council, he will work to address the teething issues of residents moving into the new BTOs in the district.

He told The Straits Times that his team is looking at restructuring their Town Council so that they can be more responsive to residents’ feedback and suggestions on the ground.

East Coast GRC also makes readjustments

East Coast GRC will also see changes to its internal boundaries.

Minister for Culture, Community & Youth Edwin Tong, who anchors East Coast GRC, shared the changes in a Facebook post on May 15.

The main revisions to the division boundaries are the following:

  • Bedok will take over the Limau and Eastwood estates
  • Fengshan will absorb a few more private estates which used to be under Siglap
  • Changi-Simei will take in Seagull estate
  • Kg Chai Chee will include Chai Chee precinct, which was previously part of Marine Parade GRC

Deputy Speaker Jessica Tan will continue to chair the East Coast Town Council.

She will be supported by new MPs Dinesh Vasu Dash and Hazlina Abdul Halim as vice-chairs, who will also helm Bedok and Fengshan respectively.

Rationale behind the boundary revisions

Tong said that there was a 25 per cent increase in the electoral population of East Coast GRC, from about 120,000 in 2020 to about 150,000 in 2025.

He expects further population growth and town development in the coming years.

According to Tong, the boundary readjustments are to allow his team to serve the residents better in light of these developments.

Here are the changes in other constituencies.
