Residents who cared for Shere Khan, the community cat that was likely abused and later died from his injuries, set up a memorial for him on May 15.
Shere Khan was a male tabby cat that was found severely injured at 326B Sumang Walk between May 11 and 12.
He was rushed to a veterinary clinic, but succumbed to his injuries.
Memorial
For his memorial, flowers and cans of cat food were placed in a corner of a HDB void deck.

Photos of Shere Khan were also printed out and pasted on the wall, accompanied by drawings and notes for the deceased feline.

Lilies were brought for the setting up of the memorial as a thoughtful gesture, but later removed as they are toxic to cats.
Shere Khan's caregiver toldĀ Mothership that his remains were cremated on May 13, and his ashes then scattered in the sea.

Shere Khan's death
Shere Khan's death was publicised by LUNI Singapore, a non-governmental organisation that serves street cats.
According to LUNI, the nature of Shere Khan's injuries "points strongly to deliberate abuse, potentially involving strangulation or blunt force trauma."
LUNI told Mothership that Shere Khan was found with:
- Both eyes forced out of its sockets (proptosis)
- Severe swelling of the tongue
- Deep facial wounds
- Frayed claws, likely from a struggle or attempt to escape
LUNI is currently looking for any information, witnesses, dashcam footage, or CCTV recordings regarding the incident.
The National Parks Board added in a statement that it is looking into the matter.
Another incident
Just days earlier on May 13, another memorial was set up in Yishun for King Kong, a beloved cat suspected to have been tortured to death.
King Kong was found on May 9, disembowelled and with its eyes gouged out.
