The body of a 33-year-old Thai DJ who had gone missing for four days was found in a remote forest in western Thailand on May 18, with his hands tied and gunshot wounds to his head.

Prior to his disappearance, the man, Waraphong Khunsrijaturong, was suspected of having an affair with a woman connected to a 'mafia figure', according to Khaosod English.

Abducted on the way to lover's home

Waraphong, who goes by the DJ name "Taetae", was last seen working at a pub shortly before his abduction on May 14, Thaiger reported citing local media.

When he never returned, his girlfriend Premyuda filed a missing person report at a police station in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.

After contacting one of his friends, Premyuda learned that Waraphong had been having an affair with a woman named Nam for over a year, and was on the way to her house before he went missing.

Security camera footage recorded Waraphong's abduction on May 14, according to Khaosod.

He had been on the phone with Nam when he said a car was following him.

His car was subsequently found abandoned along the road to Nam's home, Thaiger reported.

Body found in forest

On May 18, police and rescue workers, acting on a report from locals, found Waraphong's decaying body in a forest in Tambon Lat Ya in Kanchanaburi, Bangkok Post reported.

The deceased's hands were tied behind his back and he had two gunshot wounds to his head.

Police said that rescuers drove from the main road for 20 minutes using four-wheel-drive vehicles and then walked another five minutes to reach the scene.

A villager said he had chanced upon the body three days prior but was too scared to approach it.

He did, however, tell relatives about it, and they made the connection after news reports were made about the DJ's disappearance.

Premyuda told police that before the incident, she had warned Waraphong to stay away from Nam, as Nam's boyfriend was allegedly a 'mafia figure', Khaosod English reported.

Waraphong had assured her in turn that he had stopped seeing Nam.

Car found

The car supposedly used for the abduction was found in a neighbouring district in west Thailand, having been thoroughly washed, Bangkok Post reported.

Dashcam footage showed that it had made a trip into the forest near where the body was found.

Two suspects have been arrested for questioning, but both denied any wrongdoing.

A third man is at large.

Waraphong's father has filed a police report against the kidnappers for the murder of his son, Khaosod English reported.

He plans to transport the body home for religious rites.
