A memorial has been set up for King Kong, the beloved Yishun community cat who was allegedly tortured to death.

In a May 12 Facebook post, Facebook user Janet Chin shared photos of the memorial corner at Blk 511A Yishun St 51.

This is near the place where King Kong was found dead on May 9.

Chin said that she had met up with King Kong's dedicated feeders to set up the memorial.

Bouquets of flowers, gifts of cat food and treats, and a framed photo of King Kong could be observed at the corner.

Those who wish to pay their respects to King Kong can do so within the next week, after which the memorial will be cleared.

Tortured to death

King Kong's body was found in a horrific state near Yishun Oleander Breeze, prompting suspicion that it had been tortured to death.

Its body appeared to have been cut by a sharp object, and its guts were hanging out.

Its eyes also appeared to have been gouged out.

The feline's death prompted condemnation from animal lovers and groups in Singapore, including Law Minister and Nee Soon Member of Parliament (MP) K Shanmugam.

He called it an act of "appalling cruelty".

The National Parks Board (NParks) confirmed with Mothership at the time that they are aware of the matter and are looking into it.

"Members of the public can play a part by promptly reporting suspected cases of animal cruelty to NParks or providing potential evidence via our website at https://www.nparks.gov.sg/feedback-and-enquiry, or call us via our Animal Response Centre at 1800-476-1600.

As with all investigations, all forms of evidence are crucial to the process, and photographic and/or video-graphic evidence provided by the public will help."
