NTUC secretary-general and Jalan Kayu SMC MP Ng Chee Meng attended his first Meet-the-People Session (MPS) in five years.
On the evening of May 9, residents of Jalan Kayu SMC attended the MPS held at a PCF Sparkletots outlet at 443 Fernvale Road.
There was already quite a number of residents there by 8pm.
Media outlets were on the ground too to catch a glimpse of Ng.
Many volunteers, dressed in "Jalan Kayu" T-shirts, were on hand to register the MPS attendees and manage the crowd.
Ng arrived at around 8:25pm.
He strode quickly into the preschool while giving a cursory wave to the media.
Mothership was told that there weren't any plans for Ng to speak to the media.
Ng announced on May 6 that he "asked the Prime Minister not to assign me any position in government", a request that PM Wong is considering.
"Over the next five years, I will focus on my duties as the MP in Jalan Kayu and my role as Secretary-General of NTUC. The needs of my residents and all Singaporean workers are my priorities...My heart will always be for Singapore and Singaporeans, and I will continue to serve to the best of my abilities."
