A food delivery rider was allegedly caught on surveillance camera pretending he got into an accident to avoid completing a food delivery order.

Footage of the man's antics were uploaded online.

The surveillance camera is believed to have been mounted outside a resident's ground floor unit and was pointed towards the lift landing.

What footage showed

The man was seen with a battery-powered bicycle parked at the ground floor lift landing of a public housing block.

He then took out a plastic bag, believed to be food, from the thermal food bag mounted on the bicycle.

He proceeded to put the plastic bag on the ground and laid the bicycle on its side over the food.

He subsequently throw a packet of food on the ground, spilling its contents.

He then proceeded to take photos.

Why did he do that?

According to the in-video captions and online commenters, the man was apparently making it appear as if he got into an accident during the delivery and spilled the contents of the food.

This way, he could report the matter to the food delivery app as an accident.

Commenters speculated that the man was likely going to keep the food for himself.

They came to this conclusion as the final shot of the man showed him placing the remaining food back into the thermal bag.

One commenter suggested that the delivery rider was either unhappy with the merchant or the customer, and was effectively keeping the food for himself to get back at the party he was dissatisfied with.

Other commenters said the man was probably just greedy and gaming the system, noting that such delivery riders give the rest of the gig workers a bad name.
