An SBS Transit bus captain was driving in the morning along the Tampines Expressway slip road earlier this year when he spotted a young boy walking alone on the main road.

Shocked, Lee Chee Chong's first reaction was to bring the young boy to safety.

The incident was shared on a Facebook post by SBS Transit on Apr. 4, 2025.

The post said that Lee was driving his bus along the Tampines Expressway slip road in the morning earlier this year.

As he waited at the traffic light, the bus captain noticed a young boy walking alone, directly on the main road.

Guided the boy onboard

"I was shocked to see him on the main road by himself," Lee said.

"I knew it was very dangerous, so my first reaction was to ensure his safety."

Lee then opened the front doors of his bus and quickly guided the boy onboard.

The bus captain then contacted SBS's Operations Control Centre for assistance, who advised Lee to keep the boy safe on his route to Bedok Interchange.

At the interchange, Lee handed the boy over to interchange staff who recognised his school uniform and contacted his primary school.

The boy's vice principal and teacher arrived at the interchange shortly after and escorted him back to school, where he was reunited with his parents.

Everyday heroes

"What began as a routine morning commute turned into a successful rescue," the post wrote, before praising Lee for his deed.

The incident, said SBS, highlighted how "everyday heroes like Bus Captains can make a world of difference".
