National Solidarity Party spotted in Sembawang, intends to contest Sembawang & Tampines GRCs
"We are here to stay because we made the promise to serve and to voice your concern in Parliament."
The National Solidarity Party (NSP) said they will be contesting in Sembawang GRC and Sembawang West SMC in the upcoming General Election (GE), as well as Tampines GRC, during a walkabout at Kampung Admiralty on Apr. 6.
"As of now, we can only say that we are contesting in both Tampines and Sembawang," NSP secretary-general Spencer Ng Chung Hon said in response to Mothership's queries.
Ng and other members of his party were seen interacting with some residents in the area during the walkabout.
"Residents of Sembawang, the promise NSP made to you is cast in stone. We are here to stay because we made the promise to serve and to voice your concern in Parliament," Ng said.
Multi-cornered fight
Sembawang GRC is currently represented by People's Action Party (PAP) Members of Parliament (MP) Lim Wee Kiak, Mariam Jaafar, Poh Li San, Vikram Nair, and Minister for Health and anchor minister Ong Ye Kung.
Ong had previously said he expected "at least one new member" to join the team for the upcoming General Election.
With the release and adoption of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee's (EBRC) report, a new Sembawang West SMC was formed, in addition to the current five-man Sembawang GRC.
The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) chief Chee Soon Juan previously announced on Mar. 23 that SDP would contest Sembawang GRC.
With NSP expressing their intention to contest in the constituency, Sembawang GRC could see a multi-cornered fight in the upcoming election.
However, Straits Times reported that Ng said he will meet with SDP to understand their intentions and avoid a multi-corner fight if possible.
