Choo Pei Ling, one of People's Action Party's (PAP) new faces, was spotted alongside former senior civil servant Jeffrey Siow at Keat Hong Arena in Chua Chu Kang on Apr. 5, where the Chua Chu Kang Town Council’s new 2025-2030 Five-Year Plan was launched.

You may remember her as the other Pei Ling, alongside PAP Member of Parliament (MP) Tin Pei Ling.

Choo has been spotted a few times in Marine Parade, as early as a year ago.

She was therefore speculated to run in Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.

However, she has also appeared at Chua Chu Kang community events recently.

What does Choo say?

At the event on Apr. 5, Choo said that Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong asked her to come help and contribute to the Chua Chu Kang community.

She mentioned she has volunteered for 20 years in the community and it is a "great honour" to learn from DPM Gan.

She finds Chua Chu Kang to be a very beautiful town that has "a unique charm of its own".

She added that as a healthcare professional and an educator, she's very inclined and thinks that "it's important for us to continue the work on improving the quality of life for our aged, for the ill, and also nurturing the potential of our young, the future generation, as well as building a stronger family and community bond within Singapore".

When asked about her appearances in Chua Chu Kang, Choo said that she is still the Second Adviser to the Kembangan-Chai Chee Grassroots Organisations, a role she took on in mid-2024.

She added that serving the needs and aspirations of residents is her focus, regardless of location.

"We are a family, so it doesn’t really matter where we are, because the intention and our goal are the same," Choo said.

Another PAP new face Hazlina Abdul Halim has also been seen in Marine Parade and East Coast.

In response to media on the presence of Siow and Choo at the community event in Chua Chu Kang on Apr. 5, DPM Gan said more details will be revealed at an "appropriate" time, but expressed confidence in the two of them.

"They bring with them a wealth of experience that they can contribute to the building of Chua Chu Kang to implement the plan that we announced earlier to make ourselves a town that we want."

Choo's background

Choo is an assistant professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)'s Health and Social Sciences Cluster, and made headlines in 2014 after being awarded a prize by the Glasgow Caledonian University to help set up a rural satellite neurorehabilitation clinic in Myanmar.

She received a Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical & Imaging Neuroscience) at the same university, according to her SIT profile.
