The Singapore Traffic Police have acquired a total of 19 Polestar 2 electric vehicles (EVs).

Lianhe Zaobao reported that the EVs were specially ordered and will be progressively introduced to the Expressway Patrol Car fleet from the second half of 2025.

They are modified to be used as highway patrol cars following a tender called in 2023.

The Singapore Police Force is the first Home Team department to use EVs in its operations.

The Polestar 2 goes from zero to 100kmh in 4.5 seconds, more than 3 seconds faster than the Volvo 580.

However, its top speed is 205kmh, while the BMW 325d can reach 245kmh.

The Volvo 580 and BMW 325d are currently used by the traffic police.

The Polestar 2 was showcased at the traffic police headquarters at 10 Ubi Avenue on Apr. 10.

Expressway patrol cars are used as a police presence on roads, attend to accidents, and help drivers in need, and carry out enforcement measures against errant motorists.

Modifications made

The white police Polestar 2 has orange and blue reflective livery.

The police's version of the Polestar 2 will be the first expressway patrol car to use run-flat tyres, which allows the car to be driven up to 80km after a puncture.

This feature on Polestar 2 EVs is unavailable to the public.

The cars used by the Traffic Police have solid metal roofs, instead of the panoramic glass roof.

The online connectivity feature built into the Polestar 2 to allow for remote software updates is disabled for safety reasons.

The rear passenger compartment can accommodate a person in custody.

The regular Polestar's 82kW batteries take around 1.5 hours to charge and it has an estimated range of up to 593km.
