GE2025: 2 new faces, a lawyer & a surgeon, in PAP line-up for new West Coast-Jurong West GRC
New team.

The People’s Action Party (PAP) unveiled its slate of candidates for the newly formed West Coast-Jurong West GRC on Apr. 15. The team will comprise Desmond Lee, Shawn Huang, Ang Wei Neng, Cassandra Lee, and Hamid Razak.
Huang was previously part of Jurong GRC, but was not fielded in the line-up for the newly-created Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC that was announced the day before.
Two MPs, Foo Mee Har and Rachel Ong, will make way and step down from the old West Coast team.
Current West Coast MP and National Development Minister Lee will serve as the new GRC’s anchor minister.
The two new candidates, lawyer Cassandra Lee and orthopaedic surgeon Hamid Razak, have been seen on PAP’s walkabouts around the estates of the GRC.
West Coast-Jurong West GRC
West Coast-Jurong West GRC was formed after the dissolution of the West Coast GRC following the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC)'s report published on Mar. 11.
The wards of Taman Jurong and Jurong Spring, which were both under the Jurong GRC, were moved into the new West Coast-Jurong West GRC.
This is likely why Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Finance and Education Huang, who is currently helming both wards, has moved to the new GRC as well.
West Coast GRC’s easternmost polling districts in the HarbourFront and Sentosa estates were also moved to Radin Mas SMC, as well as areas of Dover and Telok Blangah to Tanjong Pagar GRC.
Current West Coast GRC MP Rachel Ong, who chairs the Telok Blangah estate, was not present at the press conference.
The other current West Coast GRC MP Foo Mee Har was at the press conference.
New faces
Hamid Razak
Razak was recently seen at a Ramadan event with Foo and current Jurong GRC MP Rahayu Mahzam.
The trio was spotted interacting with residents at Gek Poh Ville Community Club’s Buka Puasa event and healthier grocery distribution on Mar. 23, 2025.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Hamid Razak is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon who serves as the second adviser to the Jurong GRC Grassroots Organisation (Jurong Spring).
In 2023, Razak opened PAP's convention, calling for the party to constantly reinvent itself and invest in its future by appreciating diversity, building inclusivity, and collaborative decision-making.
Razak will cover the Jurong Spring-Gek Poh ward.
Cassandra Lee
Lee was introduced as one of PAP’s new faces at the launch of Jurong-Clementi Town Council's (JCTC) Five-Year Master Plan by Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu on Apr. 5.
Fu introduced Lee and another new face David Hoe, as new volunteers in their team who will assist the town council in managing the Jurong, Clementi and Bukit Batok area.
However, Lee was not announced as part of PAP’s slate for the newly formed Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC on Apr. 14.
Lee started volunteering in Yuhua 16 years ago and has led a Barrier-Free-Accessibility project for the division, working closely with residents and the town council.
She's a lawyer specialising in technology, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity at management consultancy EY.
Lee will cover the Ayer Rajah ward.
Meanwhile, Huang will cover the Taman Jurong ward.
Possible opposition
The newly formed PAP team will likely be facing off against the Progress Singapore Party (PSP), which narrowly lost in the 2020 elections to PAP, who got 51.68 per cent of the votes.
PSP’s team was helmed by chairman and former PAP member Tan Cheng Bock.
After its narrow loss, the party was given two Non-Constituency MP seats in Parliament, which were given to secretary-general Leong Mun Wai and first vice-chairperson Hazel Poa.
The party held its first walkabout to engage residents in Taman Jurong on Mar. 16, which has been shifted under the new West Coast-Jurong West GRC.
Tan had also served for 26 years as a PAP MP in the Ayer Rajah constituency (which has since been absorbed into West Coast), before he stepped down at the 2006 general election.
