Ex-president Halimah Yacob says video of her making 'negative statements' about govt fake, lodges police report
She called for fairness and decorum to be maintained for the upcoming election.
Former Singapore president Halimah Yacob has filed a police report over a video, which she said was created and doctored using artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology, and apparently made in her likeness.
Video supposedly showed Halimah making "negative statements" about government
In a Facebook post on Apr. 15, Halimah said the video showed her making "certain negative statements" about the government.
She added that she did not link it to avoid having it circulated further.
Stressing that the video is not real and that she did not make it, Halimah added that "deepfake" technology was used to recreate her voice.
"This is scary how AI is being used to influence voters during this critical period," she added.
Halimah then called for decorum and fairness to be maintained for the upcoming general election.
"After the GE, we still have our people and their future to think of. It’s not a one-off boxing match," she said.
