PM Wong: GE2025 called so S'poreans can decide on their leaders in a more 'uncertain, unsettled & unstable' world
Singapore is now at "a critical juncture", said PM Wong.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said he called the General Election (GE) 2025 on Apr. 15 so that Singaporeans can decide on the team to lead Singapore and chart its way forward in a changing world.
According to a Facebook post by PM Wong, Singapore is now situated at "a critical juncture":
"We are witnessing profound changes in the world. It is becoming more uncertain, unsettled, and even unstable. The global conditions that enabled Singapore's success over the past decade may no longer hold."
PM Wong had shared in an Apr. 4 YouTube video that one contributing factor for profound changes in the world was the sweeping tariffs imposed by the United States government on its trading partners worldwide, including Singapore.
PM Wong said he had advised President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to dissolve Parliament and issue the Writ of Election earlier on Tuesday.
He also attached photos of the proclamations signed by President Tharman.
Timeline for GE2025

Polling Day, which will be a public holiday if more than one candidate or group of candidates stand nominated for GE2025, will fall on May 3 (Saturday).
The Cooling-Off Day will be the day before Polling Day, which is May 2 (Friday).
