Due to limited resources on May 3 and 4, and the inability to find an alternative date and venue to hold the event, OCBC Cycle 2025 will be replaced with a virtual format instead.

Those who have signed up for the event will receive full refunds and the virtual rides will be free.

Lack of resources to ensure the security and safety of participants over weekend

According to OCBC, given the scale of the event, massive security resources are required for road closures to ensure the security and safety of event participants and road users.

However, such resources will be limited on the weekend of May 3 and 4.

OCBC said it considered postponing the flagship event to another venue and date.

However, adequate space at the Singapore Sports Hub will not not available on the other weekends of 2025.

Given the scale of the event, there is no other suitable venue that can accommodate the same distance of city routes for as many as 7,000 cyclists.

Refunds can be expected by end-May 2025

All participants, including those who have signed up for the 100km virtual ride and round island virtual ride, will get full refunds by end of May 2025.

Mass ride participants can take part in the virtual rides for free.

The OCBC Cycle Speedway Open Championship will be cancelled due to the race format.

All virtual rides must be completed by Jun. 2, 2025.

All participants can collect the event pack at the Visitor Centre, Singapore Sports Hub, on May 2 to 4.

After the completion of the virtual rides, participants will receive their event medals by mail.

Not the first time virtual format to be conducted

The virtual ride format is not entirely unfamiliar to past participants.

During Covid-19 period, OCBC Cycle was carried out in both physical and virtual format for four years.

Participants will have to cycle the full distance at one go, either indoors or outdoors.

For the round island virtual ride, participants will have to complete a cycling route around Singapore at one go.

Participants of the 100km virtual ride can complete their distance within four rides.

Ride details should be recorded using a fitness tracker or a workout app on a smartphone, and they should be submitted to the organisers by Jun. 2.

Participants can also download an e-certificate from the website after their submitted ride details are verified.
