Former NMP Raj Joshua Thomas not contesting in GE2025
He resigned from his NMP position in February and later joined the PAP.
Former Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Raj Joshua Thomas will not be contesting in the 2025 General Elections.
The lawyer resigned from his NMP position in February and joined the People's Action Party (PAP), raising speculations that he would be contesting this year.
Previously in a conversation on Mothership's podcast, "Mothership Podcast with XQ", Thomas said he was "prepared" to answer the call if needed—whether it be for running in the upcoming General Election, or anything else he is called upon to help the country.
However, Thomas was not named as part of the 32 new candidates the party will be fielding during the launch of their manifesto on Apr. 17.
Spending time on the ground
Thomas said in a post on Facebook that he will not be running in the upcoming general elections.
He said that "a lot has been said" since he stepped down as an NMP and that while he does not agree with all of it, he acknowledged that many of them are "fair".
While he will not be contesting, he has been spending time on the ground, and would like to "earn his stripes" first, he explained.
He expressed his gratitude to those who supported him and vowed that he will continue to build on their trust and confidence.
Thomas also highlighted the "serious headwinds that Singapore faces" and noted the need for a "strong government and a nimble Parliament to lead us through".
He added that he will be happy to share about what he will be doing after the elections.
