Jalan Besar fried oyster hawker stall to close at end of Aug. 2025 after almost 50 years in business
Nooooo.
Lim's Fried Oyster stall in Berseh Food Centre in Jalan Besar is closing at the end of August after close to 50 years in business.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the couple behind the popular stall have decided to retire.
Stall owner Lin Weifa (transliteration) and his wife Pan Huiling (transliteration), both 73, have been in business since 1977.
Pan told Shin Min that they did not want to wait until they had health problems to retire.
As the food centre would be renovating in September, they decided it was the right time to close down the business.
Many customers
It appeared the stall still has a dedicated base of customers, with many saddened by the news of the stall's closure.
When Shin Min went down to the stall on Apr. 5 at about 5pm, the couple was preparing to cook an order of 30 servings of fried oysters and had to open the stall an hour in advance to do so.
Although the stall was not opened until 6:30pm that day, 30 customers were seen already lining up outside the stall.
"Now that everyone has heard that I'm closing down, they've all come here. Our business has been especially good over the past two days," Pan told the Chinese paper.
One customer told Shin Min that she was sad about the stall closing down but also expressed happiness that the stall owner couple can retire in good health.
