Male Indian national, 37, arrested for allegedly stealing S$1,670 worth of watches, shirts, chocs from Changi Airport transit area
Detained within 30 minutes of report made.
The police have arrested a 37-year-old male Indian national for his suspected involvement in a series of shop theft that was committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
The police were alerted to a case of shop theft after a handbag was discovered missing from a retail outlet located in the transit area of Changi Airport on Mar. 23, 2025.
The identity of the man was established via ground enquiries and surveillance footage and he was detained within 30 minutes of the report and prevented from departing Singapore.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was believed to be involved in a series of shop theft cases involving items such as watches, shirts, chocolates, and accessories amounting to more than S$1,670 from four other retail outlets.
The man will be charged in court on Apr. 7 with the offence of theft in dwelling under.
If convicted, he shall be punished with a jail term of up to seven years, or with a fine, or with both.
The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.
