Myanmar beauty queen dies in earthquake after 12-story condo built in 2017 collapses
Tragedy.
The body of Silimee, the Myanmar representative for Miss Tourism World 2018, was found underneath a 12-storey condominium in Mandalay.
The building had collapsed during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on Apr. 2.
The condominium, the Sky Villa, was reportedly marketed for its "earthquake-resistant foundation".
The royal capital city of Mandalay, home to over 1.5 million people, and the Sagaing region were the hardest hit by the quake.
Compounded with spotty electricity and telecommunications country-wide, the full extent of damage to the country remains unclear.
The Myanmar quake has seen over 3,000 deaths, with rain expected to make rescue efforts even more challenging.
