Faced with the looming prospect of deportation, Chinese influencer leaves Taiwan after calling for military reunification with China.

Liu Zhenya, better known as Yaya in Taiwan, is a Douyin influencer with over 400,000 followers.

She was recently given a deportation order from Taiwan, to be enforced on Mar. 26.

According to Focus Taiwan, this was due to videos she posted on social media that, according to Taiwanese authorities, violated regulations on Chinese residents living in Taiwan.

One of the examples cited in the article involved Liu commenting on a large scale military exercise held around Taiwan in 2024.

She said:

"Maybe when we wake up tomorrow morning, the island will already be covered with red flags. Just the thought of it makes me happy."

According to SCMP, Liu is the first person in the island's history to be expelled for "promoting forced reunification".

While she did file an appeal against the ruling, the Taipei High Administrative Court rejected her request for a stay of execution.

Liu ended up leaving on Mar. 25 before the deadline was due, but held a protest against the decision.

She was met with about 100 counter-protesters telling her to "go back to China".

Focus Taiwan cited head of the Mainland Affairs Council saying that Liu had undergone multiple reviews and that her legal challenge to beat the deportation order had been rejected.

While Liu has claimed she meant "unification", not military unification, Chiu said many of her videos contained content that could be easily interpreted as promoting "military reunification, war and the destruction of the Republic of Taiwan."
