A 50-year-old woman was arrested for her suspected involvement in a case of attempted armed robbery along Thomson Road.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release that they were alerted to an attempted armed robbery case in a restaurant along Thomson Road on Aug. 29 at 9:34am.

The woman had allegedly taken a knife from the restaurant's table and attempted to rob another customer.

Before the police arrived, the woman left the restaurant empty-handed as the staff intervened.

Police were able to establish the woman's identity through ground enquiries and images from police cameras and surveillance footage.

This led to the woman's arrest within nine hours of the report.

A knife was seized as a case exhibit.

The woman will be charged in court on Aug. 30 with the offence of attempted armed robbery.

If convicted, she could be jailed for between two and seven years.

"The police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law," SPF said.
