A 34-year-old woman who bought a bowl of tom yum yong tau foo at a hospital food court was horrified to find what appeared to be a baby cockroach in her soup.
Speaking to Mothership, the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she visited the Fork and Spoon food court at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital after 12pm on Jun. 22, 2026.
After ordering her food, she reportedly saw the insect floating in her soup.
She scooped it out and placed it on her tray, only to recognise it as a cockroach.

The woman told Mothership that she spoke to the food court manager, and subsequently emailed both the food court operator, Koufu, and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
"Thankfully I hadn't [started] eating the food. Just imagine if I was halfway eating," she said.
Investigation launched
Responding to Mothership's queries, Koufu said they take such issues "very seriously".
They are in touch with the woman and have since responded to her feedback, the spokesperson said.
Koufu added:
"We have launched a full investigation into the matter, and [have] taken the necessary actions to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future."
In response to Mothership's queries, SFA confirmed that they are aware of the said matter and are looking into it.
SFA "will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained," a spokesperson said.
The agency added that food safety is a joint responsibility, and while SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.
"Food operators should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained," the agency said.
Members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators should report them to SFA via the online feedback form.
