After almost six hours of cadre conferences on Sunday (Jun. 28), Workers' Party (WP) secretary-general Pritam Singh and chairwoman Sylva Lim shared a toast alongside their spouses.

The cadre conferences, one triggered by cadres to discuss Singh's handling of the Raeesah Khan case and another, a routine Central Executive Committee (CEC) election, ended with Singh winning a "supermajority" during a secret vote and being reelected unopposed as the party's chief.

'Give that man a beer'

The Jun. 28 conferences ended by 6pm, and Singh and Lim were seen heading off together from the conference venue after a media doorstop.

On Facebook, at around 7:42pm, Lim shared a photo of her and Singh, along with their spouses, with smiles all around.

They also each had a drink in hand at Toku Nori Handroll Bar in Telok Ayer.

"Sometimes, there are only a few people who know what you're going through," Lim wrote in the caption, adding the hashtag, "#ForBetterForWorse".

Lim's post has garnered 136 shares and more than 8,400 reactions.

Commenters were in a similarly celebratory mood, with many agreeing that Singh needed a cold one.

Speaking to the media after the conferences ended, Singh said there was "no challenge" to his position during the CEC election.

Lim was also reelected by cadres as party chair, extending her 23 years in the position.

In the lead-up to the Sunday conferences, rumours swirled in media reports about internal disagreements and the loss of support for Pritam from former WP chief Low Thia Khiang.

Analysts agree that Sunday's outcome put those rumours, as well as the five-year-long Raeesah Khan saga, to bed.

Gerald Giam catches movie with friends and residents

For Gerald Giam, WP's head of policy research, it was back into the thick of it.

Giam went and caught a Teochew screening of "Dear You" with friends and residents.

In his Facebook post, he also mentioned how he has filed a parliamentary question regarding the application of Singapore's bilingual policy to dialect films.

Giam had chaired the three-hour-long Special Cadre Members' Conference on Sunday to discuss Singh's handling of the Raeesah Khan saga.

Reactions from other WP members

New CEC member and Punggol GRC candidate Harpeet Singh also affirmed Singh's leadership in a Facebook post, following the announcement of Sunday's outcome.

Harpreet's fellow Punggol GRC candidates, Alexis Dang and Jackson Au, later congratulated his election to the CEC in their Instagram stories.
