The stepmother of the 17-year-old Thai girl, who was allegedly murdered by a 45-year-old Australian man in the Thai beach town of Pattaya on Jun. 25, has said she hopes the man will receive the death penalty.

The suspect, Simon Carman, has since been charged with murder.

What happened

The girl, Tunchanok Donhomla, was found dead after being last seen entering a building with Carman on Jun. 25.

Carman was arrested on Jun. 26 at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok on suspicion of murdering the girl.

The parents of the girl expressed their grief, telling the media that they had held out hope that Tunchanok would still be alive.

However, that hope was shattered when the teen girl's body was found inside a suitcase.

Tunchanok's stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, also said she hoped Carman would face the harshest of penalties, according to the BBC.

"I just want him executed... I even asked the police if I could hit him, if I could beat him," she said, according to BBC.

When Carman was first arrested by the police, he denied the accusations, but later came clean after being presented with closed-circuit television footage.

Carman was later filmed apologising to the family.

He said he felt bad for what happened and described it as "out of my control".

Carman has been charged with murder, the BBC reported.
