Tanglin Club has reminded its lifeguards and supervisory staff of the need to remain vigilant at all times while on duty, regardless of pool usage levels.
This comes after one of the club's swimming pool users noticed that the lifeguard on duty appeared inattentive on two separate occasions.
Inattentive while on duty
Speaking to Mothership, the user, Lee, said that the first of the two occasions was on May 21, 2026, at around 3:30pm.
Lee was headed towards the swimming pool when he first noticed that the lifeguard on duty was inattentive.
He said the lifeguard remained in the same position "for quite some time".

At the time, Lee said there were "many swimmers" in the pool and there were also swimming classes going on.
The second occasion was on May 25, 2026, at around 9:20am.
There were not a lot of swimmers in the pool at the time, Lee shared.
Similarly, Lee observed that the lifeguard remained in the same position for "quite a while".

"Such behaviour during duty is absolutely unacceptable, and it compromises the safety of swimmers," Lee commented.
Lee has provided feedback to the club's management.
Lifeguards reminded to remain vigilant: Tanglin Club staff
Responding to Mothership's queries, a Tanglin Club staff shared that the club has reviewed the circumstances surrounding the two incidents and has also followed up with the relevant departments and service provider.
The staff said that the club places "considerable importance on the safety and well-being" of its members and guests.
"We have reminded all lifeguards and supervisory staff of the need to remain vigilant at all times while on duty, regardless of pool usage levels," the staff said.
The staff also said that "appropriate corrective action" will be taken where any lapse is established.
This may include closer supervision, refresher briefings and further operational measures, as required.
"We appreciate the feedback received and will continue to ensure that pool safety remains a priority," the staff concluded.
