S'porean man, 31, caught with sexually explicit videos involving over 80 children, including 2-year-old baby

A 31-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced on May 18, 2026, to one year and nine months' jail, as well as two strokes of the cane, after being found with sexually explicit videos.

Based on court documents seen by Mothership, the police uncovered 79 of such videos on Emerson Poh Jun Wei's handphone, laptop and desktop computer during a raid at his home on Sep. 7, 2023.

The Straits Times reported that Poh had pleaded guilty to one count of possession of such material.

Videos captured identifiable children

The videos captured 87 distinct and identifiable children, including a baby who appeared to be around two years old, according to the documents, which did not state how Poh's offence came to light.

At the time of his offence, Poh worked as an operations assistant with a local company that was not named, according to court documents, which noted that he was arrested on the day of the raid.

He was charged in court in 2025, ST reported.

Started watching pornographic videos

Poh began watching pornographic videos in 2013 when he was around 18 years old, according to court documents.

Noting that he had a preference for videos that involved young boys around 15 to 16 years old, court documents stated that Poh initially streamed pornographic videos on websites that he found using a search engine.

He also downloaded adult pornographic videos from Telegram group chats and from download links posted on Twitter.

Later, around 2018 and 2019, Poh came across "Tumblr".

Through the microblogging and social media platform, he began downloading child abuse material, in particular, pornographic videos and photographs involving young boys around 12 to 16 years old.

Stored videos

As Tumblr began to remove the pornographic materials hosted on its website, Poh decided to download all the child abuse material that he could find.

This amounted to around 100 to 200 videos, of which the 79 videos were recovered, court documents stated.

While Poh initially stored the child abuse material on his Google drive, laptop and desktop computer, his Google drive was suspended in 2023 as it was found to contain child abuse material.

He then transferred some of the videos from his desktop computer to a folder in the gallery of his mobile phone in order to gain easy access to the material.

Penalties

According to ST, the deputy public prosecutor said: "Progressively, the accused came to prefer child abuse material involving young boys around 12 years old, and he became addicted to watching such videos."

Poh's bail has been set at S$25,000, ST reported, adding that he will start his sentence on Jun. 15.
