S'pore man, 37, allegedly made 1,035 silent calls to police hotlines in 1 week

A 37-year-old man will be charged in court on May 13, 2026, for his suspected involvement in making multiple silent calls to police hotlines between Apr. 21 and 28, 2026.

Over a span of one week, the police allegedly received more than 1,035 silent calls from the man to several of their hotlines.

According to the police, the man took elaborate measures to conceal his identity, including using a foreign number to make the calls and remaining silent during the calls.

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on May 11, 2026.

The man will be charged in court for the following offences:

Obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions under Section 186(1) Penal Code 1871, which carries an imprisonment term of up to six months, a fine not exceeding $2,500, or both.

Transacting of SIM card registered using another person’s personal information for criminal activity under Section 39D of the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act 1906, which carries a fine not exceeding $10,000 or imprisonment term of up to three years or both.
