Smoke came from driver's compartment

In response to Mothership's queries, Vincent Gay, Deputy Managing Director of SMRT Buses, said a bus captain operating Service 967 had stopped at a bus stop along Woodlands Avenue 1 to allow passengers to alight and board.

However, he then noticed smoke coming from the driver's compartment.

He immediately guided all passengers off the bus and directed them to a safe distance before alerting the Bus Operations Control Centre, which activated SCDF.

The bus captain also attempted to douse the flames from a safe distance.

"We are investigating the cause of the incident and are supporting the well-being of the bus captain," Gay stated.
