96.3 Hao FM DJ Yu Si Yuan bought a two-bedroom resale condominium in Potong Pasir, making him a homeowner.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the 38-year-old DJ reportedly spent over S$1 million on the condominium.

Yu moved into the home at the end of 2025.

No urgency initially

The DJ only began house hunting in 2025.

He told Shin Min that his mindset differed from that of his friends, who rushed to buy homes before the age of 35.

Yu initially felt no urgency.

After his mother’s passing, he continued to live in a five-room HDB flat with his father and two younger brothers.

He only started to consider house hunting when his friends and colleagues encouraged him to buy a property.

Observations

The 38-year-old initially planned to spend around S$700,000.

Yu was looking at newer resale three-room flats in Toa Payoh or Bidadari.

However, he observed that within six months, prices jumped from S$720,000 to S$800,000.

That shocked him and gave him a sense of urgency.

Yu also said that he did not have luck with balloting for new flats or condos.

“Sometimes when I liked a unit, there would be eight or nine buyers competing over a weekend, and it would be sold immediately.” He said.

Yu added that he studied prices, locations, investment potential and watched over 20 YouTube videos related to those topics.

“After half a year of ‘research’, I went from knowing nothing about property to almost becoming an expert,” he joked.

His co-host also attempted to help Yu by recommending a neighbour’s unit.

Deposit without viewing

Yu eventually purchased the resale condominium for over S$1 million.

He revealed that the unit was in a relatively new development.

However, it was still tenanted.

As such, he could not find the opportunity to view it in person.

“I only saw a few photos, but the balcony had lush greenery and a nice view, which met my requirements. I trusted my instincts, since I liked it at first sight, I paid the deposit immediately without viewing it.” He said.

Homeowner

Yu became the official homeowner in April 2025.

After carrying out renovations, he moved in by the end of that year.

“This is the biggest investment of my life. Seeing my bank account ‘emptied overnight’ felt a bit surreal. Now I just have to work hard to repay the mortgage,” he said.
