The reliability of the MRT network rose in April 2026 to its highest level since November 2024, according to a monthly rail reliability update from the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Between May 2025 and April 2026, trains travelled an average of 2.22 million train-km between delays over five minutes, higher than the 1.74 million train-km recorded in March 2026.

It was the first time this measurement exceeded two million train-km since November 2024, LTA said.

There were relatively fewer delays above five minutes, which LTA attributes to continual improvements to how operators respond to faults.

Performance by line

All MRT lines continued to meet the target of exceeding one million train-km between delays in April 2026.

The North East Line (NEL) was the most reliable, maintaining the 4.45 million train-km it clocked the previous month.

It is followed by the Downtown Line (DTL), whose reliability doubled from 2.1 million train-km in March to 4.2 million train-km in April.

The performance of the East West Line (EWL) and North South Line (NSL) also improved, with the EWL exceeding two million train-km between delays for the first time since July 2025.

However, reliability on the Circle Line (CCL) fell from 2.37 million train-km in March to 2.36 million train-km in April.

The Thomson-East Coast Line

LTA did not include the performance of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) in the reliability data with the other MRT lines.

The TEL is still in the process of being fully completed, and system integration works are ongoing alongside regular operations and maintenance, which makes its reliability performance still unstable, LTA explained.

In April 2026, reliability on the TEL dropped slightly from 374,000 to 356,000 train-km between delays compared to the previous month.

LTA and SMRT, which operates the TEL, have been working to resolve teething issues on the line, which include the signalling system.

Train punctuality

As with the previous four months, there were no service delays exceeding 30 minutes across the MRT network in April.

Overall train punctuality across the MRT network was 99.48 per cent in April, up from 99.43 per cent in March.

It improved for all lines except for the CCL, which dipped from 99.13 per cent in March to 98.93 per cent in April.

It was the least punctual line for the month, whereas the DTL came up top at 99.98 per cent.

The TEL, whose data was again listed separately, recorded a 99.31 per cent rate of punctuality, up from 99.22 per cent in March.
