Former actor Huang Yiliang is seeking a new assistant at his hawker stall.
This comes amidst a very public dispute with his neighbour at Circuit Road Hawker Centre.
Huang told Mothership on the night of May 14 that he had received around 20 casual enquiries, of which at least 10 came from serious applicants.
Update on his search for a new assistant
When Mothership visited his stall, a middle-aged woman was enquiring about the role, although Huang said he was still assessing her suitability.
Huang shared that many of the applicants are in their 40s, with an even split between men and women.
Other hawkers around the area told Mothership that it was tough to find good assistants.
Some of the applicants live in areas further from Circuit Road, including Sembawang and Pasir Ris, although Huang said he would prefer someone who lives closer to the hawker centre.
When asked about the qualities he is looking for, Huang said the assistant must be a foodie like him. He is also looking for someone friendly, willing to learn, and pleasant-looking.
Managing the stall alone
Huang was alone at his stall, cooking past 8pm.

When asked whether he had encountered impatient customers now that he is working alone and may be slower at getting the orders ready, Huang recalled an incident involving a customer in his 30s who spoke rudely to him after being served crab beehoon in a pot.
He recalled the customer saying: “Didn’t I tell you I wanted to dapao (takeaway)?”
Despite not appreciating the tone of this customer, Huang said he did not lose his cool and continued serving the customer as usual.

A few interested customers came by after 8pm to place orders, but the food had already sold out.
Whenever people approached him for photos, Huang obliged.
One interested customer even took a Grab from Woodlands to the hawker centre at 9:45pm to ask if she could preorder three crabs for her elderly parents and family.
Huang said he only returned home at midnight the previous day after cleaning up the stall.

He hopes his assistant will continue working at the stall, although she wishes to avoid the woman from the chicken rice stall. Huang said he is trying to work out a shift arrangement so she can still help out.
