The ex-wife of the man in Malaysia who died the same day he was released from jail has written an emotional Facebook post about the events that transpired in the lead-up to her ex-husband's passing.

In the post, she described how she and their daughter eagerly waited to fetch the man, Lu Xun, home from police custody, only for it to be the last time they saw him alive.

Lu was sentenced to a fine and one day's jail for causing an accident after driving against traffic in April.

He was in ill health when he was taken into custody and died shortly after he was released.

Gone, just like that

"The entire court process was a little ironic to me, but I'm not going to argue anymore," she wrote.

She added that she and her daughter knew that her ex-husband wasn't in the best of health, and hoped that the matter would be over quickly so that they could take him to the hospital for treatment.

"My daughter and I waited outside the prison. When I saw the police wheel him out, we were elated. We went up to him and thought we could take him home. However, he was pale in the face and lips," she recounted.

Panicked, they rushed to the hospital.

"I did not expect that, after 15 minutes of resuscitation attempts, he would be gone just like that. He would bid his daughter goodbye forever," she wrote.

Hadn't spoken in years: ex-wife

Reflecting on their relationship, the ex-wife commented that she and Lu hadn't spoken or met up in 10 years and had practically become strangers.

"Despite that, I was hugging him in the back of the car and looking at him," she recalled.

"Now, each time I am quiet, that moment flashes in my mind. I would smile to myself. This is the script given to me by the heavens. I guess you can call it a conclusion."

The ex-wife added that she will be by her daughter's side and "bravely" send Lu off on a final farewell.

"I hope that he is well and without worry on the other side," she wrote at the end of the post

Lu's last rites are scheduled for the morning of May 7.
