A 29-year-old actor, who is a Singapore permanent resident and China national, was fined S$800 and banned from driving for one month on May 6, 2026 for speeding at 121km/h on a highway with a 70km/h limit for that particular section.
This comes after Zong Zijie pleaded guilty to one count of speeding, CNA reported.
According to CNA, his charge sheet stated that at about 12:55pm on Aug. 23, 2025, he had driven 51km/h above the limit on West Coast Highway.
Prior traffic violations
Following this incident, CNA reported that the prosecutor on May 6 sought an S$800 fine with no disqualification orders for Zong.
The prosecutor added that Zong had prior traffic violations, including speeding offences in April 2020, June 2020 and September 2023.
CNA reported that District Judge Shawn Ho, noting that Zong had three prior speeding violations and was driving at 51km/h over the speed limit on Aug. 23, 2025, asked the prosecutor if a disqualification order should be imposed.
To that, the prosecutor said he would not be pressing for it, but would leave it to the court to calibrate if there was a need.
Zong was unrepresented and said nothing in mitigation at first, according to CNA.
'Driving is a responsibility': Judge
CNA reported that when the judge questioned him, he said: "Your honour, on the day itself I was late and in a rush so I went a lot above the speed limit.
"I know that I went above the speed limit, so, I'll face my...whatever the court issues me. Yeah."
"I would prefer there not to be a suspension, because my work actually requires me to travel a lot, so a disqualification for a period of time will cause a lot of inconvenience," said Zong in response to the judge's question on whether he had anything to say regarding a disqualification order.
"Driving is a responsibility," said the judge. "If you want to drive on our roads, do not speed."
CNA reported that for speeding, Zong could have been jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$1,000, or both.
Debuted at 13
Zong's profile on Noontalk Media's website states that in 2009, he debuted at the age of 13 in Mediacorp's Chinese drama "My School Daze".
The artiste with the Chinese media entertainment agency that actor Dasmond Koh co-founded has also acted in shows including "The Sky is Still Blue" and "Your World In Mine".
