Two Singaporeans were among the eight men arrested in a drug raid at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, following the death of a guest in the early hours of May 24.
Two locals and six foreigners arrested
According to local news outlet The Star, the Brickfields police chief, Hoo Chang Hook, said the raid came after a 31-year-old local man was brought unconscious from the hotel to the emergency department of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Hoo said a team from the Brickfields Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division later raided the deceased's hotel room at around 4am, acting on information received.
Eight men comprising two Malaysian nationals and six foreigners — two Singaporeans and one each from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia and China, were arrested.
All have been remanded for three days to assist in investigations.
Officers also seized a transparent plastic packet believed to contain 1.5g of ketamine and three ecstasy pills weighing 0.7g, with a combined estimated value of RM225 (S$73).
The case is being investigated under Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Hoo said initial investigations revealed the victim had lost consciousness in the hotel room before a friend brought him downstairs at around 3:10am and transported him to HKL.
A post-mortem was conducted at 9:30am, with laboratory results on the cause of death still pending.
The case has been classified as a sudden death report at this stage.
