S'porean man, 19, pleads guilty to raping younger sister after years of sexual abuse that began when she was 8

A 19-year-old man in Singapore pleaded guilty to raping his younger sister when she was 13.

This was after he molested her over several years beginning when she was still in primary school.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated outrage of modesty and one count of aggravated rape, while three similar charges, including sexual assault by penetration and attempted rape, will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

Prosecutors are seeking 11 years' jail and 15 strokes of the cane.

Abuse began when victim was eight

The offender, who cannot be named due to gag orders protecting the identity of the victim, is the girl's biological elder brother and is about three years older than her.

At the time of the offences, he was between 13 and 17 years old, while the victim was between 10 and 13.

Court documents seen by Mothership stated that the sexual abuse first began around 2018, when the victim was about eight to nine years old.

Offender wanted to imitate pornography

At the time, the boy had been watching pornography and wanted to replicate the sexual acts he had seen.

One night, while their parents were not home, he entered his sister’s room, asked her to lie on the bed, and molested her for several minutes before stopping when the family's domestic helper called out for them from another part of the flat.

The incident changed the relationship between the siblings, prosecutors said, with the victim, who had previously been close to him, beginning to fear her brother.

The abuse continued on several occasions that year.

On one occasion, he asked her to fellate him, but she refused.

He also once showed her a pornographic video in her room, after which their mother reprimanded him and barred him from entering his sister's room after catching the both of them watching the video.

According to prosecutors, the abuse stopped for a period before resuming in 2020, after he noticed that the victim had begun puberty and developed breasts.

This reignited the accused’s sexual arousal towards his sister.

Abuse escalated over time

Between 2020 and 2021, the offender repeatedly entered his sister's room at night when their parents were asleep or not at home, molesting her while she slept.

On one occasion, he ejaculated in his pants during the assault.

The abuse later escalated further.

Court documents stated that between 2020 and 2022, the accused intensified the nature of his sexual assault by digitally penetrating the victim on several occasions without her consent.

During some of these incidents, the domestic helper caught him sexually assaulting his sister and threatened to inform his parents, though she ultimately did not do so.

As her contract neared its end in 2021, the helper began keeping close watch over the girl and was often present with her in her room, preventing further assaults during that period.

But after the helper left in August that year, prosecutors said this emboldened the offender to resume the abuse.

Between January and October 2022, he attempted to rape his sister, but failed to penetrate her.

The victim was then between 12 and 13 years old.

He then went on top of the victim to penetrate her without her consent.

He did not use a condom.

Because this was his first attempt at penetration with his genitals, he did not know how to carry out the act.

In November that year, while both were at home during the school holidays, he entered her room at night, removed both their clothing, and penetrated her while she was asleep.

After about a minute, he withdrew and continued rubbing himself against her until she woke up and kicked him, causing him to flee the room.

Final incident led to police report

The final incident took place at about 6am on Jan. 30, 2023.

While the victim was asleep, the offender entered her room again and rubbed himself against her over her clothes.

She woke up, after which he jumped off the bed and ran back to his room.

Their father, who had woken up to use the toilet, sensed that something was wrong and questioned him, but he denied entering the room.

He repeated the denial when asked by his mother.

The victim later confided in her mother about what had happened.

Their father then scolded the boy, who eventually admitted to touching his sister, before taking the victim to lodge a police report at 10:42am.

The accused was released on bail on the same day he was arrested, and remains on bail till date.

In submissions to the court, prosecutors said the offender's conduct showed a sustained escalation over five years and that the abuse only grew in depravity.

They added that he had abused the trust placed in him as an the victim's biological brother and resumed the assaults after waiting for the helper to leave, describing him as "not only a persistent but a cunning sexual predator" whose conduct warranted imprisonment and caning.

He is expected back in court for sentencing in May 7.
