Family of 3 gets into car accident along Airport Boulevard, man, 82, dies & his wife still in ICU

The 82-year-old victim of the Apr. 3 accident on Airport Boulevard was reportedly en route to India to visit relatives at the time of the crash.

Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the man’s granddaughter shared that he had not been able to travel for several years due to his poor health.

To fulfil his final wish, his daughter — the granddaughter's aunt — had organised the trip and was accompanying both parents on the journey.

The man's wife is still in the intensive care unit with a fractured jaw and a serious knee injury, while her aunt has been working on the funeral arrangements despite injuries as well.

Car skidded towards slip road

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the accident at about 11:25pm on Apr. 3, 2026.

The incident involved a car that was believed to have self-skidded along Airport Boulevard towards the Terminal 1 slip road leading to Terminal 2, according to the police.

Other than the deceased, a 60-year-old male driver and two female passengers, aged 44 and 74, were conscious when taken to  Changi General Hospital (CGH).

Photos from the scene, according to The Straits Times, showed a black multi-purpose vehicle bearing the livery of limousine service provider LTS, with visible damage, including a caved-in bonnet and a cracked windscreen.

The driver is currently assisting with ongoing police investigations.

A trip to visit relatives

According to the granddaughter, her grandparents, aunt and cousin were in the car, along with the driver.

Her cousin was the only one unharmed and immediately alerted the family of the accident.

She shared that her grandfather used to return to India to visit relatives every year, but has not been able to do so in recent years due to his health condition.

He suffers from dementia and some heart problems, she said.

They had planned to stay in India for a month and were heading to the airport to catch a flight that night.

Succumbed to injuries

The granddaughter said that her family rushed to the hospital after being notified.

Despite the medical staff's best efforts, her grandfather eventually passed away.

Meanwhile, her grandmother is still in the intensive care unit with a fractured jaw and a serious knee injury.

“It happened so suddenly. We were busy with Grandpa’s funeral and didn’t even know how the accident happened or how the car suddenly skidded,” she said.
