A diner in Singapore was left reeling after she was served a slice of salmon that appeared almost sausage-thin.

The customer, Lu Peixian, 47, said she bought her food at Grill & Chill Co. located at Safra Mount Faber on Apr. 1 evening.

The salmon set meal cost S$15.90, but she paid S$15.10 after a 5 per cent Safra member discount.

Questioned staff

Lu told Shin Min Daily News that she questioned the staff on the spot upon receiving her food.

She said the food served did not look like what was advertised on the menu.

The staff replied that the menu photo was an old image and did not offer further explanation or a refund, Lu said.

Lu subsequently posted about the meal and her disbelief on Facebook and received comments, such as how the fish was shaped like a sausage and it resembled a kid's meal.

She also left a Google review.

It read:

Wow. Con job alert. I have never come across a bigger lie than this. I ordered their pan seared salmon with honey mustard and this is what I get.

They had the cheek to tell me the picture with the big piece of salmon is an old picture. Wow. Never ever gonna patronize this place again. What a con job.

Check out the size of the fork versus the miserable piece of salmon. CON JOB. I would have given ZERO if this was possible.

I have reviewed and eaten at alot of establishments, food courts and hawker stalls to know this is a con job!!!

She also included a number of photos showing the salmon slice from different angles and to compare it with the dimensions of the cutlery and utensils.

Staff: 160g of salmon is standard size

A Shin Min reporter visited the Western food stall and an employee explained that each serving of salmon was pre-cut to a standard size that weighed about 160g.

He added that the shape and size may differ from piece to piece, and denied the piece served to the diner was a smaller slice.

He has since informed the owner and they are considering increasing the size of the salmon by 10g to 20g each.

They are also going to change the visual illustration of the dish.

He said: "In the future, I will tell customers the amount of fish before they order to avoid any misunderstanding. I will also cut the fish into larger pieces. If the fish is too small, I will give them two pieces."

Other diners satisfied with other dishes at the stall

However, other diners who tried the Western food at the stall were satisfied with the portion, they told Shin Min.

One of them said she had ordered steak previously and felt that the portion was decent, but a little pricey.

Another said the chicken dish he ordered was tasty and value for money.

The reporter observed that the stall was doing brisk sales during lunchtime.

Salmon sold at other establishments typically weighed 160g to 190g and cost between S$12 and S$18, Shin Min reported.

Some of them come with sides as well.
