2 male teens, aged 16 & 17, arrested for stealing a motorcycle in Boon Keng
The motorcycle's transponder had been left inside its storage compartment.
The police have arrested two male teenagers, aged 16 and 17, for their suspected involvement in a case of theft of a motorcycle.
The police received a report on Apr. 15 at about 7:30am that a motorcycle parked at the vicinity of McNair Road in Boon Keng was purportedly stolen.
The identities of the two male teenagers were established through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from surveillance and police cameras.
The duo were arrested Apr. 16.
Preliminary investigations revealed that they were able to start the parked motorcycle as the transponder had been left inside a storage compartment of the motorcycle.
The stolen motorcycle has been recovered.
The two teenagers will be charged in court on Apr. 18 with the offence of theft of motor vehicle with common intention.
The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years, and a fine.
The police said all motorcycle owners should park their motorcycles in well-lit areas, install anti-theft alarms, use a canvas to cover the motorcycle with both ends secured, use additional locking devices, remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, and not leave spare keys or transponders inside any storage compartments of the motorcycle.
