S’porean man, 40, arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint for smuggling duty-unpaid cigarettes in rental car
More than 1,300 packets and 217 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes were found.
A 40-year-old Singaporean man was arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint on Apr. 2 for attempting to smuggle duty-unpaid cigarettes into Singapore in a rental car.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) posted about the incident on Facebook on Apr. 17.
The man was entering Singapore via a Singapore-registered rental car.
Based on information received from ICA’s Integrated Targeting Centre (ITC), ICA Search & Examination officers directed the vehicle for enhanced checks.
A total of more than 1,300 packets and 217 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes were found concealed within the door panels and the boot of the vehicle.
The man was arrested in connection with the case.
The exhibits and the accused were referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
