The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Workers' Party (WP) has concluded the disciplinary process into the party's Secretary-General, Pritam Singh.
It has issued a formal letter of reprimand to Singh, according to a press statement released on Apr. 30, 2026.
Disciplinary panel
The CEC met on Apr. 28 and 29. Sylvia Lim (WP Chair), Faisal Manap (WP Vice-Chair) and Singh himself recused themselves from the meeting.
It considered the report of the Disciplinary Panel, which found that there was a contravention of Articles 20(1) and 30 of the WP Constitution by reason of the findings by the Court.
Singh was previously convicted for lying to the Committee of Privileges and had his appeal dismissed.
The CEC accepted the findings of the panel in respect of the contravention.
However, the CEC also separately considered that:
"At all material times, Mr Singh did not have any intention to act in a manner contrary to the principles, aims, or objects of the Party, or prejudicial to the welfare of the Party, and his actions ultimately reflected judgement calls that he had to make."
In considering the range of potential actions to take against Singh, assessing the "totality of the circumstances", it decided to issue the formal letter of reprimand.
"We continue the work of building a more balanced political system for Singapore," the statement added.
How we got here
In February 2025, Singh was found guilty of lying to the Committee of Privileges on two charges relating to what he told the Committee.
It was set up to look into former WP Member of Parliament (MP) Raeesah Khan and her untruths told in Parliament.
The judge convicted Singh on both charges under the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities and Powers) Act.
He was fined the maximum of S$7,000 for both charges.
Singh appealed his conviction, with the appeal taking place in November 2025.
It was dismissed in December 2025.
Following the dismissal, over 20 WP cadres made a request calling for a special conference to be held, with Singh's case as a possible point of discussion.
The CEC acknowledged this and would follow up on the request.
The CEC met on January 2, 2026 and confirmed that a Disciplinary Panel would be set up to determine if Singh had contravened the party's Constitution.
