Popular hawker franchise Eng Kee Chicken Wings announced that they will be increasing the price of selected items by 10 to 20 cents from May 1.

The adjustment is due to rising ingredient costs, Eng Kee said in posts on their social media.

"We have worked hard to maintain our prices for as long as possible," they added.

The franchise, which has over 10 outlets across Singapore, opened their newest branch at 632 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 recently on Apr. 15.

Eng Kee sells chicken wings at S$1.60 each, and offer set meals under S$4.

In response to the price adjustment, a Facebook user expressed concern over whether portion sizes will also be reduced.

Eng Kee assured that the change will not affect portion sizes, and said the stalls will continue giving diners the same servings.

Rising costs

Following the war in Iran that sparked a global energy crisis, eateries around Singapore have been raising prices to cope with rising ingredient and operating costs.

In early April, several coffee shop drink stalls increased prices by up to 30 cents due to rising costs of raw materials, shipping, electricity, and manpower.

Melvin Chew, the owner of Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck and Kway Chap at Chinatown Complex, recently told Mothership the price of a five-litre oil bottle has risen from S$10 to S$12 each.

The chairman of the Chinatown Complex Hawkers' Association said that operating costs have increased by another 10 per cent in April, while higher delivery fees caused by fuel surcharges are further squeezing margins, reported CNA.
