An Ang Mo Kio stall selling chicken rice for S$1.90 said it does not plan to raise prices.
Speaking to Lianhe Zaobao, the owner of the Nguan Express 88 chicken rice stall shared that they hope the low prices will allow more people to afford a meal.
Large quantities, low margins
Located at 704 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, the chicken rice stall previously made headlines for its affordable prices.
The stall owner, Lim Yi Xing (transliteration), shared that the strategy is to sell their items in large quantities at low profit margins.
"To be honest, we don't earn much per packet of chicken rice," Lim added.
"Our strategy is high volume with low profit margins, so we have no intention of raising prices."
The conflict in the Middle East has affected production costs, with Lim stating that their overall costs have increased by 30 per cent.
However, according to Lim, the eatery's main shareholder is in the frozen meat industry.
Since they have a direct supply of chicken and a central kitchen, the eatery can still control costs.
Furthermore, Lim shared that more than half of their customers are older and live near the store.
"That's why we won't raise prices. We hope they can still enjoy a meal at an affordable price."
Another store
Lim shared that they have also opened another outlet in Bukit Batok, and despite being newly opened, they have already sold more than 300 packs of chicken rice.
They plan to open another store in Jurong West in June 2026.
