A woman, who was accused of hiring hitmen to kill her husband in Malaysia, has been acquitted.

Two other men believed to be involved in the case were also found not guilty of murder and were released, according to China Press.

Liang Yingying (transliteration), who is 41 this year, was thought to have plotted her husband's death in 2022 for revenge and insurance.

The man was found with 14 stab wounds.

Insufficient evidence

According to the judge, the prosecution's evidentiary procedures were not in accordance with the law, and the investigation results had many "flaws".

The judge found that the prosecution was unable to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

In particular, he noted that the prosecution had no witness testimonies to prove that Liang had directly or indirectly participated in the murder.

Relying solely on the bloodstains on her clothes was insufficient to prove that Liang had committed murder, the judge found.

Hope to lead good life

In an interview with China Press outside the court, Liang said she has been physically and mentally exhausted in the years since the case started.

However, now that she has been released, she hopes to lead a "good life" from now on.

She said that what she most wants is to travel abroad and relax.

She expressed gratitude to her lawyer for helping her navigate the legal process and allow her to return to a normal life.

Liang used to work as a part-time translator and a court interpreter, but is no longer doing so.

She also has four children, the eldest of whom is 20 years old.

Liang was pregnant at the time of her arrest and said she was in a weaker condition then.
