Michael Fang Amin, a GE2025 candidate who campaigned under the banner of the People's Alliance for Reform (PAR) has announced his resignation from politics in Singapore.

Fang, who stood for election in Yio Chu Kang SMC and lost, shared in a Facebook post on Apr. 21, 2026 that he has submitted his resignation letter from all keyholder appointments, and resigned from opposition politics.

Fang went on to commend the performance of the People's Action Party (PAP) since the election, adding:

"And I have to say that the PAP performed relatively well in the interim for pushing for reforms for Singaporeans and sorry to say, compared to the splintered interests within the Opposition camp esp those who refused to unite for the service of Singaporeans."

He did not name any specific names.

"Taking up similar initiatives"

Fang said that his goal was to push for benefits and reforms for Singaporeans.

In this vein, he praised the government of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong for being responsive and "taking up similar initiatives" that he mentioned in his Golden Letter to Parliament in 2020.

The letter outlined initiatives such as establishing not-for-profit and insured hospitals and a passive income base for workers retraining for mid-career job replacements.

Fang therefore considered his objectives fulfilled at the moment, as these proposals were pushed forward and implemented.

He added that he “can retreat to focus on charity efforts," thanked Singaporeans for their support and said he hoped to “serve them in areas other than opposition politics.”

Fang’s political career

Fang was a member of opposition party People’s Voice (PV), which is part of the People’s Alliance for Reform (PAR).

He first entered politics in GE2020 and represented PV in an address to Singaporeans that election year.

Fang, along with fellow PV candidates Lim Tean, Leong Sze Hian and Nor Azlan Bin Sulaiman, stood in Jalan Besar GRC.

According to the Elections Department, PV attained 34.54 per cent of the votes that year, losing to a PAP team that included Minister Josephine Teo.

Fang competed again in GE2025, attaining 21.25 per cent of the votes in Yio Chu Kang SMC, losing to Yip Hon Weng of PAP.

Outside of politics, Fang was a lecturer, earned a doctorate and is currently the Chief Medical Officer at MedTrust Technologies.
