I was in denial about turning 30, but my hair loss forced me to face reality
I’m not trying to be a Korean actress, I just want thicker, fuller hair.
Even as I inch closer to 30, I struggle to come to terms with it.
I’m in denial that I’m aging and my body needs more care. I still hang out with my friends after work, eat plenty of junk food, and stay up late as if age has no hold on me.
But one thing that I can’t seem to control is my hair loss.
I’ve been noticing a lot of my hair everywhere at home, and it’s apparently becoming a bother to my brother whenever he vacuums the house.

“It’s normal la! You also drop hair, right?” I said as I try to laugh it off every time he complains, but proceed to have a mini panic attack internally.
Ever since I’ve noticed the thinning of my hair, I can’t seem to unsee it. It wasn’t until I binged on a Korean drama that I came across the female lead’s thick, effortless and luscious hair. Suddenly, I wanted that for myself too.

Obviously, I’m not expecting myself to turn into Go Youn Jung… I’m not that delusional, but all I’m saying is that I want thick healthy hair that doesn’t constantly fall out everywhere.
So I did the thing I should have done sooner: I sought expert help at TK TrichoKare to find out exactly what was causing the copious amount of hairfall.
What is happening up there
After an in-depth consultation with Lyneryl, the consultant, alongside a Tricho-Scan analysis to identify the root of my hair loss issue, I was told that my scalp was not thriving, to say the least.

Even with a super close-up look at my scalp under 200x magnification, my scalp and hair follicles were blocked by the oil that had piled up on my head despite washing my hair thoroughly every day.
Seeing my scalp magnified was quite unsettling and confronting, but it finally made sense why I felt my hair was thinning.
Turns out, the oil has been clogging the roots of my hair follicles, which is why new hair can’t grow out as fast as it was dropping, causing huge gaps in between my hair follicles.
My scalp can’t breathe through the oil-clogged pores, and there’s even an empty patch on the left showing no new hair follicle growth. Photo from TK TrichoKare.
At this point, the scans of my scalp made me realise how much worse my scalp condition could have become if I had just let it be.
Apart from the oil clogging my roots, I also had what they called “wet dandruff” – essentially normal dandruff, except because of my oily scalp, they’re stuck on my head instead.
Seeing the layers of oil and the flakes of dandruff was pretty gross, if only I could peel them off. Photo from TK TrichoKare.
This meant that it wasn’t a simple “white flakes showing on my black top” situation. The flakes were trapped in my oil, sitting on my scalp and worsening my hair state over time, eventually causing my hair loss.
I was swiftly ushered to a room for a Scalp Purifying Therapy treatment, which they had customised according to my concerns and scalp issues.
They started with a customised European herbal scalp masque, infused with Tea Tree and Magnolia herbs, which helps to eliminate excess sebum and unclog oil-clogged pores on the scalp for healthier, thicker hair.

They left the masque on my scalp for a bit to let the nutrients to soak in fully, eliminate the excess sebum and help loosen up the gunk that had been building up there without me realising.
I could do this all day, every day
When it was time to wash off the masque, I received an invigorating and thorough hair wash with TrichoKare’s Nourishing Hair Bath shampoo and CompleteKare Mask conditioner.

The staff alternated between giving my scalp a good wash, and my head a good massage. After that, she applied a hair mist onto my strands to keep them from tangling.
Then came the Customised Treatment Essence, which was sprayed onto my scalp using a NanoMist Spray. The essence contains premium European herbs, such as Saw Palmetto, Calendula and Nettle to help boost hydration and strengthen hair growth.
Unlike the generic, off-the-shelf products I tried, this treatment was tailored to my scalp’s specific needs after a detailed trichological analysis with my scalp scans.

One of the most unique parts of the session for me was the Hair Bang.
It’s a low light therapy that helps detoxify and keeps the scalp’s pH balance in check while healing it from inflammation.
In case you were wondering, it doesn’t hurt at all. Gif by Mothership.
The light therapy is meant to stimulate blood circulation which encourages better nutrient delivery to the follicles.
Colour me impressed
After all that was done, my hair enjoyed a good blowout before I was sent back to re-examine my scalp’s condition.
The improvement after just one session was transformative, and it made me realise just how crucial it is to regularly take care of our scalp.
For starters, you can now see my hair follicles in their full glory.

The oil that had been sitting on my scalp was now gone, my pores were unclogged and there were visibly fewer dandruff flakes.
I definitely wasn’t expecting to become Go Youn Jung a miracle to happen, but it made me feel hopeful about getting that thick and luscious hair even as I inched closer to 30.
Even more so when I know that there are others who’ve seen good results after their treatment at TK TrichoKare.
