Faishal Ibrahim says S'pore students in Middle East are safe, minimal disruption to studies
He held a video call with over 40 Singaporean students to check on their well-being.
Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim said in a Mar. 5 Facebook post that Singaporean students pursuing studies in the Middle East are safe and their studies have suffered minimal disruption amidst the ongoing Middle East conflict.
This comes after he spoke with over 40 Singaporean students on a video call to check on their welfare.
According to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the students on the call were student leaders and representatives, including those from PERKEMAS and SIRAJ.
"Our students shared their concerns, but also their resilience amidst the uncertainty," Faishal said, detailing the call.
"I was reassured to hear that they are keeping safe and continuing to focus on their studies. I assured them that their safety, welfare and well-being remain our priority, and we stand ready to assist where needed," he added.
The minister also told the students to regularly update their families, stay in contact with the authorities and follow travel advisories.
Faishal also referred to a form by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) about Singaporeans' need for assistance to get home and urged the students to respond to it promptly, if required.
"Let us continue to pray for the safety of all Singaporeans affected by the conflict. At home, let us remain calm and united, and safeguard the peace and harmony we cherish," he concluded.
MUIS said that it remains in close contact with the students and will continue working with MFA to ensure this.
